Lately, when we drive back from Utah to Arizona we have made some fun stops along the way. This time back we checked out Antelope Canyon. It is a slot canyon formed by water and wind and it is beautiful.
First off, it's kinda pricey. For the both of us to go, Finlee was free, it cost us $65. But it is a tour that the Navajo people do so you are paying for them to show you the canyon and drive you up. To get to the canyon you have to ride in the back of a truck that has this funny seated canopy thingy which is really bumpy and kinda crazy.
Then you get there and its just a little slit in the canyon.
Once you walk in, the colors are beautiful and the way the rock weaves into the canyon is so amazing.
It gets kinda dark in the slot so it took me a moment to adjust the camera, but little did I know that the main part of the tour is for the Navajo people to show you how to use your camera in to capture the right colors and to point out the "landmarks" or whatever you want to call them. I'll explain later in the post.
So the picture above I took after adjusting the settings a bit, but the picture below is after the tour guide took the camera and made some other adjustments.
Below are 3 different spots that the tour guide pointed out to us. The first one is a cowboy boot. I had to lay on the ground to get that photo.
Next we have a profile of a face with the hair going back. It might have been someone but I can't remember what they told us!
Then this next one might be tricky to spot but it is the profile of a bear right in the middle of the picture.
The canyon was so beautiful. The time we were there was not the prime time to go. They say if you come between noon and 2 then the lighting is the best. We got there around 4 and it still was great to me.
Finlee loved the tour. He looked around, was talking and just taking it all in.
On the tour you walk all the way through the canyon, then turn around and walk back through. There were so many countries represented there in the canyon. As we passed by were heard German, Japanese, Chinese, French, Spanish, etc. Spencer spoke a bit of Japanese to them as they passed and they were so shocked that this tall American knew their language so good.
So fun and pretty, definitely worth the money, but still pricey.
That is beautiful! I've never heard of this place before, but now I want to go...especially if you get photography tips
ReplyDeleteOoh! I have always wanted to visit Antelope Canyon. Awesome pics. You could make your own calendar with all the cool photos of places you've toured!
